Students at Denver Academy are bright individuals with varied learning profiles who choose us because our approach to education is as distinctive as each child. DA’s mission is to inspire and empower diverse learners through student-centered, differentiated, and transformative education.
During DA’s annual faculty and staff celebration in mid-May, we honored employees celebrating milestone anniversaries at our school. Included among the honorees this year was DA Head of Lower School Lori Hull, who just completed her 40th year with DA!
"I'm proud to have been part of the amazing Denver Academy community for 40 years," she says. "I look forward to a bright future!"
During her tenure, Mrs. Hull has taught high school and elementary school, worked as Director of Admissions, and coordinated the Elementary Division. She has served as the Head of Lower School since 2004. Congrats, Mrs. Hull!
Denver Academy was featured on a recent episode of A World of Difference: Embracing Neurodiversity. The film crew visited our campus in mid-November.
Produced by Beacon College — the first accredited baccalaureate institution in the nation for neurodivergent students — the show airs on Central Florida’s PBS station, WUCF TV, and is available nationwide via the free PBS app on most streaming devices, including Roku, Chromecast, and Apple TV+. In the episode, DA is featured as a school helping neurodivergent high school students prepare for successful careers.
Denver Academy's Summer Program will be held on the DA campus from June 9 through July 3, 2025. This year’s program features academic classes, day camps, tutoring, and academic coaching for students with a wide range of learning profiles in grades 1-12. The Summer Program is open to both DA and non-DA students.
On Saturday, April 26, the DA community came together in festive botanical dress at the Denver Art Museum and raised more than $350,000 to support tuition assistance at DA. This went beyond our goals for the Masterpiece in Bloom Gala and was one of our best fundraising events to date! Though we worked on some masterpieces together (making bouquets, painting by number, and watching an artist’s creation happen before our eyes), the true work of art is our community’s collaborative effort to support our school.
Congrats to DA Junior Gia G.P. who was recently named as a Colorado State Thespian Officer for the International Thespian Society (ITS), the only theater society for middle and high school students. Students from all over Colorado applied for this position. After an intensive interview process, Gia was one of 10 students selected.
We're thrilled to share that, thanks to your vote, Denver Academy has won the Favorite Tutoring Program reader’s choice award in Colorado Parent Magazine’s 2024 Family Favorites competition. DA’s tutoring program, under the leadership of Director of Tutoring Services Tammy Curran, provides year-round tutoring and academic coaching services to both DA students and those attending other schools. DA was also a runner-up in the Family Favorites categories of private elementary school and principal, private middle school, and private high school.
Your support has helped us achieve this amazing recognition, and we're deeply appreciative of your contribution to our success. Thank you!Learn more about tutoring at DA here.
In August, the DA Library was awarded the Highly Effective Schools Through Libraries (HESTL) designation from the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado State Library after two years of collecting and submitting evidence. DA Librarian Jolene Gutiérrez earned the five HESTL Teacher Librarian credentials (Planning, Instruction, Leadership, Environment and Management), which allowed our DA Library to achieve the Highly Effective School Library Program designation. For his support of the DA Library Program and for submitting evidence with each of our credentials, DA Head of School Mark Twarogowski was awarded the HESTL Principal Collaboration Credential.
We are very pleased to announce that Denver Academy has fulfilled the requirements set forth by the ADL Mountain States Region and is now officially designated as a No Place for Hate® School! No Place for Hate (NPFH) is a student-led school climate initiative for K-12 schools committed to creating sustainable change that leads to improved school culture.
The entire DA community is extremely proud of achieving this designation for the FIRST YEAR in 2023-24! An especially loud shoutout to those Mustangs on the No Place for Hate Coalition — students and staff — who put their hearts, minds, and actions into earning this designation.
DA values our children’s differences and strengths - their superpowers - as much as we do.
